Iverson Free Workshop: Unique, X-factor cybersecurity skills - empowering your future with CompTIA

On July 10, 2024, from 9 am to 5 pm, I had the opportunity to attend the Iverson Free Workshop titled "Unique, X-factor Cybersecurity Skills - Empowering Your Future with CompTIA." The workshop featured two distinguished presenters: Dr. James Stanger (PhD, Chief Technology Evangelist at CompTIA) and Mr. Tho Sih Foo (CEH, CTT, CSCU, MCT, MCSE, Iverson), an authorized (ISC)² instructor.

The most captivating part of the workshop was Dr. Stanger's introduction of the new C.I.A. triad, which stands for Curation, Identification, and Analysis. This innovative approach promises to reshape our understanding and practices in cybersecurity.

Throughout the day, we delved into five key emerging trends in the cybersecurity landscape for 2024:

  1. Rise of Quantum Computing Threats: Understanding the potential risks posed by quantum computing to current encryption methods.

  2. AI and Machine Learning in Cyber Attacks: Exploring how AI and machine learning are being leveraged in sophisticated cyber attacks.

  3. Deepening Embrace of Zero Trust Architecture: Examining the increasing adoption of zero trust principles to enhance security.

  4. Heightened Focus on Supply Chain Security: Addressing the critical need for robust security measures in supply chain management.

  5. Cybersecurity Talent Shortage and Skill Gap: Discussing the growing demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals and the challenges in meeting this need.

The workshop also highlighted the five most in-demand cybersecurity jobs, which are:

  1. Blockchain Developer

  2. Network Engineer

  3. Ethical Hacker

  4. Security Architect

  5. Security Software Developer

In addition, we learned about the most sought-after cybersecurity skills, including:

  • Data security

  • Threat knowledge

  • Network security

  • Data analysis

  • Identity management

  • Application security

  • Endpoint security

  • Regulatory landscape

  • Cryptography

Attending this workshop was an enlightening experience, providing valuable insights into the current and future state of cybersecurity. The knowledge gained from Dr. Stanger and Mr. Tho's presentations will undoubtedly empower my future endeavors in this ever-evolving field.
